School productions might be on hold... but that doesn't mean you have to be! 

 

Are you stuck at home? Did your show just get postponed or even cancelled? Is your google classroom full of math and science work and you're left wondering but what about my theater class

Don't worry! You can still work on your singing, acting, and dancing through this online one-on-one masterclass with professional artists from all over the world without even leaving your house! 

Participating in our online classroom is simple. Just upload a video of a monologue, a cut of a song, or a choreographed number to Youtube. You can also compose a short script, sketch, or outline. Send this video or writing sample to SelfTapeForTheSoul@gmail.com and within 2 days you will receive a video message with personalized feedback from a surprise artist or industry professional who stands behind educational theater and believes The Show Must Go On

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

    • Step one:  Pick a piece to work on.
      (You can pick your own piece or choose a monologue, scene, song, from the material below)

    • Step two: Complete the permission PDF form below (if under 18)

    • Step three: Record and/or upload the piece that you're working on to Youtube (feel free to choose from the material provided below). 
      Make sure to SLATE- Say your name and age (if under 18) before you perform.

    • Step four: Send your video link or your written work to SelfTapeForTheSoul@gmail.com

    • Step five: Students/parents who participate are welcome to give a donation per video (suggested $10), and profits will go to The Actors Fund and directly to artists whose livelihoods have been affected by the recent current events.

THE RULES:
 

  • Each video should only include one song, monologue or dance so that our artists can give you specific actionable feedback. 

  • Each video should not exceed three minutes.

  • As these amazing artists are donating their time to help kids across the country, feedback will be randomized and we will not be able to accept requests for responses from a specific expert listed above. But, the more videos you submit, the more experts you will be able to hear from. You will not receive feedback from the same expert twice.

  • This is an open-ended opportunity and there is no end-date as to when to submit. This is open to all countries and ages. We hope you'll be able to participate!

CRITERIA FOR EACH CATEGORY

If you are submitting a MONOLOGUE

  • Please film your monologue (horizontally if using a phone) and film it from chest up, so it's fairly close-up.

  • You are welcome to pick any monologue that you'd like, regardless of gender.

  • Feel free to use one of the monologues from this Monologue Dropbox

If you are submitting an ACTING SCENE:

  • Please film your scene (horizontally if using a phone) and film it from chest up, so it's fairly close-up.

  • Make sure your off-camera scene-partner can be heard.

  • You are welcome to pick any scene that you'd like, regardless of gender.

  • Feel free to use one of the acting sides from this Acting Side Dropbox

If you are submitting a SONG:

  • Please film your song (horizontally if using a phone) and film a wide shot (to your knees or full-body)

  • You are welcome to pick any song that you'd like, regardless of gender.

  • Feel free to use an accompaniment track for one of these songs, or another song of your choice, but please use some sort of  accompaniment. 

  • If you choose to use one of our accompaniment tracks, but want to sing it in another key, try this app to help make the key more comfortable for you: Anytune

If you are submitting a DANCE:

  • Please film your dance (horizontally if using a phone) and film a wide shot (full-body).

  • Feel free to use the choreography videos found here or send a video of your own work.

If you are submitting a WRITING SAMPLE:

  • Please submit one of the following for feedback from one of our writers or producers:
    - Short story (not to exceed 8 pages)
    - Sketch (not to exceed 8 pages)
    - TV or Film outline
    - Pitch for your TV or Film project
